At RobCo, we develop AI-powered robotic systems that make industrial processes more autonomous, efficient, and scalable. Our Autonomous Manufacturing Platform combines modular industrial hardware with physical AI, enabling rapid deployment and continuous optimisation in real-world production environments.
With offices in Munich, San Francisco and Austin, and the support of leading investors such as Lightspeed, Lingotto Innovation und Sequoia, we are working to redefine industrial automation.
To further expand our team, we are looking for you as Mechanical Design Engineer (m/f/d) with the following mission:
You design the mechanical periphery that ensures robotic automation works reliably in real customer environments. Your focus is on everything around the robot that enables safe, repeatable, and maintainable operation according to industrial standards. Typical design scope includes:
- End-of-arm tooling (EOAT)
- Custom grippers
- Fixtures, nesting, part presentation, and workholding
- Robot cell structures, frames, bases, and mounting systems
You work closely with project managers, applications and controls engineers, procurement, and customers to deliver periphery hardware that integrates seamlessly with RobCo’s modular robotic platform and withstands day-to-day production realities.
Your Responsibilities:
Mechanical Design of Automation Periphery:
- Develop concepts and detailed designs for EOAT, fixtures, and periphery modules based on part, process, and takt requirements.
- Create robust interfaces to RobCo modules (mounting, alignment, tolerances, cable and hose routing, strain relief).
- Drive design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly from day one (simple, repeatable, cost-aware, lead-time aware).
- Build production-ready CAD (3D models), drawings.
Project Support & Customer Interaction:
- Translate customer inputs (part drawings, constraints, standards, site conditions) into requirements and design decisions.
- Contribute to design reviews, feasibility checks
- Support prototyping, mock-ups, and testing
- Coordinate with external suppliers (machining, gripper vendors, pneumatics) including technical clarifications.
Integration & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Provide early input during concept phase to avoid late rework (space, access, guarding, tolerances).
- Help turn one-off solutions into improved standards, templates, and reusable modules.
Documentation & Quality:
- Create and maintain BOMs, technical documentation, safety notes, and test procedures for mechanical periphery.
- Ensure designs meet applicable safety and machinery expectations.
